Digital Black & White Photography with John Gitsham

Learn how to see and capture the world creatively from Macclesfield-based fine art photographer John Gitsham. This 2-day workshop will introduce you to the process of planning, capturing, editing and printing digital fine art black and white photographs. The course (Limited class of 10 students) will be a combination of in the field practical guidance and classroom theory. John has over 50 years experience in photography (20 years as a professional photographer), using film and digital.

Day One - Sat 5th April, 2 - 6pm

Day One of this workshop, delivered by Macclesfield-based fine art photographer John Gitsham, will offer an overview of John's workflow from pre-visualisation to final print. You will become familiar with his photographic influences and his portfolio (highlights from his 3 published photographic books) and then get to observe him shoot, import, edit and print an image. Participants are then welcome to share a pub dinner afterwards (for those local or staying overnight).

Day Two - Sun 7th April, 11am - 5pm

Day Two will be a hands-on day for you to get familiar with camera techniques, subject choice and compositional guidance as you build your own way of seeing from a fine art perspective. John will lead a photographic tour of Macclesfield, with landscape, architecture and still -life opportunities, where you will capture images on your own camera using the techniques outlined. After a pub lunch you will import, select and edit images to share for group feedback and discussion. John will print a 6×8″ print for each participant to take home so that you experience the entire workflow of fine art black and white photography from start to finish.
