Analogue B&W film workshop
Analogue B&W film workshop

Our first workshop at watermark crossing!

Our Analogue Black & White Film Photography and Processing Workshop was so much fun. We had perfect Autumn weather on the last official day of Autumn, and the workshop resulted in some wonderful experiences as well as images.

It was great to work between the various spaces on the property – we used the studio for the theory side of things, the caravan darkroom for the chemistry side of things (for film processing), and the cubby darkroom for film drying and preparing the negatives in the neg sleeves. It was so interesting to see what our 2 intrepid photographers responded to on out photowalk in the beautiful town of Macclesfield. We shot Ilford HP5Plus 400 film and developed with Ilford Microphen developer (adjusting developing times for the various vintage cameras and our evaluation of their exposure characteristics), and their resulting negatives look fantastic! We did a bit of ‘scanning’ using a phone scanner so they could see some of the images as digital negatives (and then positives using Snapseed) and we will follow up with a B&W printing workshop for proper hand-made images for stage 2. Thanks to Tinka and Jack for being our first workshop participants at Watermark Crossing!
